Interview

Handle: SLEDGE/FAIRLIGHT

How did you come up with your alias ?
I'm a real fan of Percy Sledge :-) Nah, seriously I don't remember!

City / Country:
Stockholm / Sweden

Born year:
1973

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
I bought my first computer back in the beginning of Mars 1983. First it was ment to be a "family" thing. My father said he would do the budget and my brother said he would do some BASIC programming and I said just about nothing. But as you all know, the BASIC and BUDGET concept was a dead end and a PR thing, just like Multimedia is for the PC's today. So I started to collect games for it instead.

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I got interested in the scene somewhere between 1986-87, when I first got some demos from Triad. Then me and my friends build up a group called Newline, at that time the Amiga 500 got to town, so we moved over to the Amiga. And later I joined The Silents in 1988-89. In 89 we got bored of the Amiga scene and started up Mute 101 on the C64 (there were a Amiga section aswell of Mute 101). And we did alot until me and Tron & Flood joined Fairlight in November 1990. And here I am now, leading the 64 section of Fairlight. But still I'm also active on the Amiga in one way or another, but not in any group.

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
Must have been around 1987-90, I was on every single copyparty and we released ALOT of demos during that time.

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
I have contributed with alot of things during my active time on the 64 scene. It's there I want to be remembered. I have been running one of Europe's biggest and most liked boards on the 64 since 1990.

What would you like to be remembered for ?
The great sysop at Warez Aquarium and as one of the guys behind alot of good demoreleases on both C64 and Amiga. And ofcoz I want to be remembered as a loyal friend among everyone I met on the scene.

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
Hey?! Have I stopped?? If it only was THAT good?? Nah, I will probably go on forever.

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
I do regret that I didn't go to a alot of parties during late 1990 and 1991, Tron was on me every time, but I fucked it all up. Too bad. And I also regret that I didn't start calling with modem until 1990, even if my brother had a modem back in 1986. Those days when boards was something secret and special.

What was your favorite
GAME(S)
Toy Bizzarr (C64, 1983?)
Rick Dangerous I & II (Amiga, C64)
Creatures I & II (C64, 1991,92?)
Defender Of The Crown (Amiga, 1986)
Etc...

DEMO(S)
C64 Demos
How to recognize a tree from a quite long way away (Mute 101)
Legoland series (Fairlitght)
Wonderland series (Censor Design)

Amiga Demos
Kaktus & Mahoney demos are still the best.

PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
Tron/Fairlight
Bob/Censor
Kaktus & Mahoney

CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
Bacchus/Fairlight (the one and only!)

OVERALL GROUPS :
Censor Design (good demos, many cracks, good boards and a good diskmagazine).

COMPOSER(S)
Rod Hubbard
JCH
Drax
Martin Galway

BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
Can't remember the composer, but it was a tune in a intro which Legend on the C64 used alot in 1992-1993 (A Man and a Woman was on the picture in a somewhat futuristic atmosphere and a blue square with the infotext in). It's the all time tune!

BEST GRAPHICS
Ogami/Fairlight (He has the right feeling all the time)

EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY)
The best copyparty I have every been to was back in May 1989 in Eskilstuna, Sweden. There were so many cool C64 sceners there and the atmosphere was just great. Those were the times when Horizon were the coolies of the decade.

DRINK ?
Jolt Cola (twice the caffeine + 45% real sugar) make you a perfect nighttime hacker.

What are you doing nowadays ?
I'm a network engineer at a big company here in Stockholm. So for me it's still "Strictly Data Jämt!"

What are you doing on your spare time?
Will I ever get away from the C64, Amiga and PC market? As they say: ONEWAY NO RETURN! I will probably go on with this ages to come.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
Remember your roots! And throw those lame IBM Clones away!

What is the meaning of life?
