Interview

Handle:
Metal of Vibrants

How did you come up with your alias ?
I came up with the idea of 'Metal' because I - at that time - liked Rock'n'Roll and Heavy Metal.. and since my friends at school called me 'Metal' as my nickname - I took on 'Metal' as my computer-handle aswell.

City / Country:
Aalborg / Denmark

Born year:
1972

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
My first computer was a Commodore 64 and I got it in May 1986.

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I got into the scene through my good friend Ulrik Henriksen - alias Tiger. He had just started himself and I joined his group Zone 7, which then was my first group. I've been in the following groups: Zone 7, Deadline, TAF, U2, World Wide Expressive (WWE), Abnormal, Contex, Unitech Designs, Bonzai, Flash Inc. and Regina - I'm currently a member of Vibrants, Camelot and Avantgarde!

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
The very first piece of music I made, and also when I saw my name in the charts for the first time! And ofcause when Bonzai hit the number one spot as the best demo-group!

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
For the music I made for the Bonzai demos. When I meet people on IRC, they always ask if I'm the Metal/Bonzai...

What would you like to be remembered for ?
I would like to be remembered for being a musician, who made music that made a difference. I've always tried to keep a style, that was my own and not to listen too much to the other people's music.

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
Well, actually I'm still active in the scene, but I did have a break in the period from 1991 to 1993, due to the loss of my c64.. I thought the scene had died, but I was proven otherwise, so I'm still around...

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
Hmm, not really. Maybe that I joined Contex, which was a major mistake!

What was your favorite

Actually I hardly played a game after 1987 - Hawkeye was cool though!

Too many to mention.

Coffee, beer, redwine.

What are you doing nowadays ?
I'm almost done studying for Land-Surveyor. I've also settled down and raised a family - so goodbye nerdish computer image!

What are you doing on your spare time?
I take care of the usual family business, but I also have some time to compose some tracks on either the c64, the PC, or on my Synthesizer (MIDI).. I'm also active in the pc-scene in the demo-group Analogue, which have some pretty interesting c64-oldies in it (Hein Design and Mirage). I also play some soccer when I have the time..

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
There are so many things that could be said about the old days.. one thing is sure though - they'll never come back, not on any computer!! Be glad that you were able to take part in what is the longest surviving computer-scene!

What is the meaning of life?
If I knew, I would probably not be living here on earth..
