Interview
Handle:
Judge / Horizon
How did you come up with your alias ?
Well I don't really remember but I think it was a friend of mine that
suggested it to me. Maybe he thought I needed a new one. Probably it's
a short form of Judge Dredd which could explain why it isn't 'The judge'.
City / Country:
I live in Malmö/Sweden and have done so all my life.
Born year:
I was born the spring of -72 in Malmö.
What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
The first computer I got in touch with was my fathers VIC-20. I think that
was back in 1982. In the beginning I used to define own characters to draw
pictures with.
How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
It all started when some friends met a couple of guys at a local computer-
store. They turn out to be members of a group (I don't remember the name)
and we got some demos from them. This gave us the inspiration to learn more
about progamming. Some years later we met some guys from Vortex 42 on a local
meeting, and soon we joined forces with them. You could say that this was
our big step into the scene. Vortex 42 became Science 451. During those days
Hightech and I made the demos 'Dreams of tomorrow' and 'Metal dreams'
(actually I think he did most of it). Later we joined Sphinx. This got a
little to big I guess with lots of members all over the world. After Sphinx
I and another friend Radius was members of Heptagon for a while before I
became a member of FairLight. After some demos for Fairlight mainly together
with Pernod, the two of us joined the real snakers in Horizon.
What was the proudest moment in your career ?
This was a hard one. I must say that I'm not very proud
of anything I have done. Well you get rather satisfied as long as people watch
what you are doing. Then again I guess I have been lucky to have such good
friends to work with.
For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
I don't think anybody remember me, more than maybe someone with a list of
old groupmembers.
What would you like to be remembered for ?
The dream was to be remembered for my coding and demos, but I am a realist.
What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I had no particular reason to stop my activity, it just happened. I think
it was sometime in 1992 (or maybe -91).
Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
There is nothing I can think of that I regret doing (more than a couple of
bugs). I had fun and that was the important thing.
What was your favorite
GAME(S)
Without doubt Ultima V but not far behind is the Boulder Dash series.
DEMO(S)
Funny feeling, I don't remember any demos, or maybe I remember to many.
PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
There were many good ones but I think Exilon/Horizon was the best
(even if he is, like myself, rather lazy sometimes).
COMPOSER(S)
Jeroen Tel, JCH, just to name a few. (I am not into music very much)
MEMORY(S)
I have many good memories from several copyparties. Both from big
and not so big parties.
What are you doing nowadays ?
Nowadays I am studying computer science and mathematics at an undergraduate
level at the university of Lund. I also do some teaching occasionally.
What are you doing on your spare time?
On my spare time... Well I don't have that much spare time nowadays.
I still use computers for fun, maybe not as much as those days, you must face
it there are other important things in life.
Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
To all young (and old) computer freaks, HAVE A GOOD TIME. Thats why we hang
around this place for the short time we call life.
