Interview
Handle:
Death Demon of FBR (Fucked Beyond Repair)
Homepage
How did you come up with your alias ?
It is the name of a monster introduced in an AD&D Module called
"Chateau D'Amberville"
City / Country:
San Jose, CA / USA (But my FBR stuff was done in Ventura, CA / USA)
Born year:
1971
What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
Commodore 64, around 1983
How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I got into the scene by programming. I was in Ultrasoft Inc. (lame group)
for a few weeks until I realized that the group was never going to be
anything, then I joined a startup called FBR (Fucked Beyond Repair) cause
they were just forming and had some contacts lined up. My last C64 coding
was an intro for a friend's group called North East Crackers (NEC).
What was the proudest moment in your career ?
The first American smooth raster routine, raster bar, raster animation,
and sever other programming firsts. Also being able to maintain relationships
with friends thousands of miles away.
For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
New routines coming out all the time, my group probably having the most
US releases at the time and my intros being on most of them. Hopefully
cool demos everybody loved.
What would you like to be remembered for ?
Best programmer ever! Hahaha
What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
Got busted for using the infamous 1-800 Sprint Backdoor. Most of my group
got turned in too, so we gave the group to Oahawhool and retired.
Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
Not continuing.
What was your favorite
GAME(S)
Druid
DEMO(S)
Abstract Reality (Yes, I made it, but I liked it too. Is that a crime?)
PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
My favorite programmers were Changeling and Riff Raff. Changeling because
he kept me on my toes (The two of us were ALWAYS outperforming each other
just to keep our egos satisfied and our skills sharp). Riff Raff because
he was such a cool guy and knew the kernal inside and out. He was also about
the best animation programmer I had ever worked with.
CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
UCF. JJ The Breaker cracked for them and the rest of the group was cool.
COMPOSER(S)
Rob Hubbard. He was a cool guy to talk to on the phone and would help me out
writing drivers for his music that I ripped out of games.
BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
The Never Ending Story
EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY)
Never attended any events, but I enjoyed the programmer's summit conferrence
calls.
MEMORY(S)
Getting wake up calls every morning from Crocodile Chris (kept me on time at
school), talking with the Belgium guys every night (forget thier names though,
one of the groups we imported from), Talking to Marcel from France (Forget the
group and handle). The cute ESI wars with everyone where new and even more
disgusting facts would surface about Mitch and his friends (Multiple "budies"
getting busted for child molestation with little boys, Ewwwwww).
DRINK ?
Guiness Draught (It's good for you)
What are you doing nowadays ?
Play with Doom2 and Duke Nuke'em 3d. Spend time with my gorgeous girlfriend.
Go clubbing. Practice/teach Tae Kwon Do & Hap Ki Do.
Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
Piracy is the single most important thing a child can do. Not only will the
child's synapses grow at an astounding rate do to thier logical thought
process improving, but they will obtain a greater understanding of the
world in which we live by creating lasting relationships with children
of every nation. Hacking is the most wonderful thing a child can do to
become a more intelligent person, and a more successful individual in
the long run. I would not have become an engineer, nor have such an
understanding of the world in which we live without having gone
through that phase.
What is the meaning of life?
To increase your intelligence infinitely and forever. For those of you who
KEPT themselves stuck behind thier computers because of either lack of
interest in the outside world, or lack of interest in you by the outside
world, this means that you must all get out in the real world and meet
real people. For true knowledge comes from ALL aspects of life. You
cannot learn the love of a woman by simulating it on your system, no
matter how many megs you have. Of course you can get better looking
ones (long live the Internet)!!!!!
