Interview

Handle:
T.M.C. of Scoop / Maniacs of Noise

How did you come up with your alias ?
Can't remember. Dictionary I believe

City / Country:
Tustin, CA, USA (previous Holthees, Holland)

Born year:
1970

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
Commodore PET in 1983

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I got a C64 in 1985, and started programming. Soon enough I hooked up with some demogroups and hackers. In 1986, me and jeroen started Maniacs of Noise. Scoop became a side-group in Maniacs of Noise purely ment for demo-purposes.

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
Leaving holland and the "going-down-hill" C64 and amiga scene.

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
For bringing Maniacs of Noise to the level that is was. Currently I'm basically doing the same here for Interplay in the states. I manage a group of 15 people which do VO/ADR, music, soundeffects editing and design. We're currently on top 3 list of the audio scene for games in the states.

What would you like to be remembered for ?
Nothing really, so that I can just live on and do my thing over here. The c64/amiga time was a time in my life that was nice but not my main goal. It helped me get a job over here when I did Lord of the Rings on the C64 and Dragon Wars on the Amiga. That's how I see it now.

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
When I got a job-offer from interplay in the states I moved, and stopped all my business in Holland, Spain and England

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
Not having a normal life. Basically we were working non-stop 7 days per week 12 hours per day to get all the work done. It helped for our future careers, but it ruined those years.

What was your favorite
GAME(S)
It was a karate game by System 3, can't remember the name

PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
Can't remember, too long ago. Maybe Ian and Mic or Dave and Ash (hi!)

CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
Hotline

COMPOSER(S)
Martin, Tim and Rob still always knew exactly on how to be a few steps ahead of us. Hi martin, how everything going on WC4?

BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
Hmmm. not sure. Most stuff that these 3 guys did was good, if not outstanding for a little 3 dollar sound-chip.

DRINK ?
Diet Coke

What are you doing nowadays ?
Working full-time for Interplay, USA as their audio director managing 15-people, doing post-production and SFX design on the movies in the game etc. We currently have 12 studios in which we do all of our work.

What are you doing on your spare time?
Spending time with my wife and working on my new house. Driving around in my new 3000gt-vr4 would also be on the top-list if I had more time....

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
Hi!

What is the meaning of life?
Make money, spend it, and... well. die I guess.
