Interview
Handle:
Nike/Danish Gold (1986/87), Eleanor/Triton Technology (1987 - renamed Upfront in 1988)
How did you come up with your alias ?
I was 14 years old, had no clue as to which name to use - and looked at my shoes!
When I picked the name Eleanor later on, I had no idea it was a female name...I just thought
it looked cool! *grin*
City / Country:
Randers, Denmark
Born year:
1972
What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
My dad bought a C64 in 1983. My big brother bought the 1541. I paid 1/2 of the Dolphin Dos though.
How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
Dunno how it began really. I was making the soundtrack for a few games and that's what
got me into Danish Gold in 1986. I was very proud since it was one of the fastest groups in Denmark
at the time. A year or so later I split to form a new group, Triton Technology, with my big brother and
some old-time local friends. We were primarily a demo-group and had some of the most talented
computerfreaks in the country as members. In 1988 Triton T was renamed Upfront.
What was the proudest moment in your career ?
Apart from becoming a member of Danish Gold, I remember when Triad's ranking list was
THE ranking list - and Triton T was no. 6!
Other proud moments were when I was able to spread new demos from Triton T/Upfront.
For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
Ahem...I really doubt if anybody remembers me or my music since it was only average, nothing special.
I was one of the few people who actually had a unique music-routine though (thanks Henning!).
What would you like to be remembered for ?
Being a fast trader, an average musician and a nice guy.
What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I left the scene in mid-1988. I think the C64 was starting to fade out in favor of the Amiga at the
time and that's why I quit.
Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
There are a few people which I shouldn't have trusted but apart from that I've had a great time with
no regrets.
What was your favorite
GAME(S)
M.U.L.E., Football Manager, Loderunner, Fort Apocalypse
DEMO(S)
Hrm.....can't remember any (our own, of course! *smirk*).
1001 crew's legendary demo using border-scroll for the 1st time - Commodore claimed it was
impossible.
PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
Look above.
CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
Just Ice / Ikari, Triad
COMPOSER(S)
Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Johannes Bjerregaard, in that order
BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
Sanxion / Hubbard
EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY)
I remember the DG party in Tommerup in 1987, that was tons of fun.
Apart from the drunken swedes who got out-of-control drunk and totally wrecked
the place the last day of the event, that is.
I also remember when the phone rang at nights and an american asked:
'Hi - do you wanna get on conference?'. It was so much fun to sit there in the
night talking to guys you were trading games with, I loved it.
MEMORY(S)
I remember when you read somewhere that Rob Hubbard was doing the soundtrack for a new
game. Then you waited and waited until the game was finally released - just to hear that cool guy's
awesome music. Hubbard really was a god back in those days, it's so sad he's not composing
computermusic anymore.
A personal hello to Duke / The Light Circle. You sent me a few post cards after we both quit
the scene, I apologize for not answering and hope you've been ok the past years :)
What are you doing nowadays ?
Today I'm studying economics at the local university. I've got a PC and do play a game occasionally but
that's it. Civ II is my favorite game of all times and I had a great time playing Doom II when that was released
a few years ago. Network-games are the greatest!
What are you doing on your spare time?
I run a lot, read Clive Barker, ride my MTB in the local forest, go to the movies with my old Triton T friends
(hi Claus, Henning, Lars & Snurre!) and generally try to have a good time. I used to play diku-MUDs on the
Internet earlier (my handle is Poseidon in Grimne, AnotherMud, Alex, Austin, Imperial) but I lost interest in it.
Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
I appreciate being part of the childhood of computers back in the C64-days and I hope everyone I knew back
then are satisfied with the way their lives have turned out. Finally I'd like to say this:
"May future generations poke 53280,1"
What is the meaning of life?
Avoiding "LOAD ERROR" ?
