Interview
Handle:
The White Knight of Anthrox
How did you come up with your alias ?
I used to play Chess when I first got my 64! and then one day, I managed to
gee a 1541.. WOW! (until then, just a 64 that I had to use Carts.. tape drives were not
popular in USA) so a friend of mine asks me to pick a name/handle.. so I said "The Knight"
(my favorite chess piece).. but he thought I said "The White Knight".. so he told me it
fits perfectly on a 64 disk name.. so I said.. okay.. and that was it..
City / Country:
New York - USA
Born year:
1971 - In INDIA
What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
64! 1985 (I wated to get Atari 2600 but then I saw a friend with a 64 & disks)..
the disks can hold as much as 10 games & the games can be copied! WOW! cheaper
than carts.. & Bruce lee, Popeye, Gyruss, Buck Rogers looked quite cool :)
How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I was learning how to program.. you know, typing in those programs from
magazines, making erros & when you finally correct everything.. you get some crap program..
later, I met someone in school that I traded warez with (disk swapping) and
then someone else as well... somehow, 2 of these people disliked each other and
one of them pissed me off as well.. so, the other guy (his name is Danial) & I became
better friends and Danial told me to get a modem. (Danial got tons of disks
every day) So I ran out and got a COOL! SUPER DUPER! MEGA FAST... NOT! 300 baud modem
and called some local boards he told me to call.. I got on some local lame boards when
I d/l'ed 100 block (24K?) games in only 15mins or so.. Until this time, I was
looking at BASIC (64@HOME, Apple][e@school & PASCAL (on a PeeCee in school)... but
Danial had some nice connection with others throughout USA and showed me some ripped fonts,
ripped music, etc and told me how some of the cool screens were done..
(ESI/UCF etc) Danial wasnt a programmer but tried to help me by telling me some tools
which were used.. then during the summer, he moved to Florida & I was on my own! :(
At this time, I only learned JSR init music JSR music (enable IRQ .. set $0314/0315)
:(
Danials handle was Commodore Kid (I am not sure how much he was known but he
had some cool stuff)
Then I ran into some dicks from New York.. you know.. those pretend elites
at local swap meets, boards etc..
from that point on, it was just learning to do everything on my own!
eventually, I did (64 PROGRAMMERS MANUAL from Commodore).. also looked at some routines
of others like JCT/1001 crew/The Dreat team/Trianon etc...
The only groups I was a member of was
- Hardcore
- NEC
shortly due to probs at home..
- Baseline 2091 (SNES)
- Anthrox
What was the proudest moment in your career ?
When I learned how to code & met a lot of Europeans :)
Then being able to work with Front Far East for SUPER WILDCARD DX..
For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
I dont even know if I am remembered...
What would you like to be remembered for ?
Just being a nice person that I try to be
What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
Not exactly stopped.. but maybe lack of time..
I became quite inactive in 95 on the SNES.. just got bored.. barely any
europeans on the console scene... training/trading/supplying is not my idea of fun..
I prefer coding..
Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
The attitude of some people in the scene who try to rip off others in the scene
or start racist shit and are serious about it.. I wont mention any names, but I
used to think they were friends..
