Interview

Handle:
Fred of Ackerlight

How did you come up with your alias ?
It's just my short name

City / Country:
Strasbourg, France

Born year:
1970

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
C64 when I was 14 I guess...

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
My friends were busy writing demos and making music for them was the way people heard about me. The only group was Ackerlight (nota: in fact the name was originally HackerLight but in order to be mentionned first in the greetings lists the 'H' was ripped off!).

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
Just before "the end". I didn't realize what I was doing and never expected that so many people would react to the music, even years later.

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
I think people liked the music I wrote because it was easy and melodious. And there wasn't so many music-makers available at the time I was busy.

What would you like to be remembered for ?
Some music pieces of cource. But don't ask me which ones...

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
The activity of Ackerlight was not always putting out demos, as everybody knows... We didn't realize the 'crime' on that time but the french game companies joined forces to stop the illegal activities in the country and members of Ackerlight were some of the first to be arrested.

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
There's nothing to regret. We had good times and bad times.

What was your favorite
GAME(S)
I almost didn't play games on my Amiga. But I remember having a lot of fun on my C64.

--> I can't remember all the stuff!

What are you doing nowadays ?
After having stopped Amiga activities for many years, I learned general computer programming at school/university. Afterwards I worked for Philips in Belgium on the CD-I (Interactive CD). Now I only use a PC for typing letters, organising information and surfing the net. Now, one of my main activity is beeing deejay. Many would think I'm playing some kind of trance or techno but I just hate it! I play House.

What are you doing on your spare time?
No spare time. My professional activities are mixed with my hobbies, which doesn't split my life like 'the work' and 'the spare time'.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
The Amiga was our youth. Don't be nostalgic and grow up with the present.

What is the meaning of life?
To make it as great as possible.
