Interview
Handle:
Dimento -/- http://inet.uni-c.dk/~bluenine
How did you come up with your alias ?
It was carefully planned. I didn't want to have a handle that another
person might have so I thought long and hard about it and came up with name
of a person in Richard Corben's DEN comic. There you have it :)
City / Country:
Copenhagen, Denmark
Born year:
1969
What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
My first computer was a ZX81. I got it back in '82. Then I moved to the ZX
Spectrum and in '84-'85 I got the C64 - soon to be replaced by a C128.
I then moved on to an Amiga 500 and I now have a custom made PC (don't want
to write the specs as they will probably look ridiculous when you read this
in a couple of months).
How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
Back in the good old days of the C64, a couple of friends and I formed a
really lame group called Danish Underground Crew... That says it all,
doesn't it! Some of us, when moving on to the Amiga, formed a group called
Unicorn. We did a few demos and then Infiltrator moved on to Trilogy. I
have never figured out how he got into the group but he did. I joined
Triton Technologies/Upfront(hi Soeren) for a few weeks and after
Infiltrator(hi Flemming) smoothtalked Dr. Strange/M&M(hi Martin), I got a
shot at doing a demo for Trilogy. I got accepted (again I wonder why) and
that's it.
What was the proudest moment in your career ?
Hmm.. Being offered a job as game developer, because of having been a
programmer in Trilogy, after Trilogy was put to rest.
For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
None really. I was not doing all the "cool 1 billion bobs pr. second" demos
but from what I have been told, some people actually liked some of my work
because it was not the standard demos but somewhat innovative.
What would you like to be remembered for ?
Doing strange and out of style demos and being a fun guy at the
copyparties. I haven't got a clue to if I succeeded in any but I can still
hope....
What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I stopped in the summer/fall of 1989 when Trilogy stopped. When we got our
job-offer I was really not interested in being "on the scene" anymore. the
games and demos kept on coming but the serious work was definately more
interesting.
Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
Nope. I did what I did because it was fun. Yes, we broke a few rules/laws
but who can prove it now :)
What was your favorite
GAME(S)
On the Amiga I played Millennium and Deuteros. On the C64 I played everything.
DEMO(S)
Hmmm... Except for my own (hahaha) I can really only remember QRD/7-Up Crew's Burner
PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
1001 Crew did some amazing stuff on the C64. Silents and Kefrens
were quite good technically on the Amiga, but beyond that I can't
remember anymore.
CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
Danish Gold(Sunny),1001 Crew, Triad, Unit A, Fairlight, Tristar, Dynamic Duo, ACE
COMPOSER(S)
M&M, Galway, Hubbard, MoN, Follin, the Grays, Huelsbeck and all the
other great Amiga and especially C64 composers.
BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
Nearly everything by Galway, The Moochies(Amiga)
EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY)
My favourite copyparty was the one in Tommerup/Denmark held by
Danish Gold (among others). I was nothing at the time, but knew
Sunny(DG) and he invited me.
Another fond memory was the party in Fredericia a few years later.
I can't remember who hosted it, but that's when I met with the guys
from Trilogy for the first time and within 5 minutes we decided to
go buy a lot of beers... And we have been at it ever since
(nearly).
DRINK ?
A good strong beer like Elephant or Bear Brew. Also a Vodka and Tonic is
great when at parties. When trying to stay sober I prefer Coffee, Coca
Cola, Jolt or water.
What are you doing nowadays ?
I'm a computer programmer in a bank in Denmark, doing everything from
IBM/390 to PC's.
What are you doing on your spare time?
As little as humanly possible - except for fridays and saturdays when I
fancy a couple of alcoholic drinks.
Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
1. "Stand back, I'm a programmer!"
2. "I was destined for something bigger..."
3. "Errara humanum est"
What is the meaning of life?
The classical - 42 !!!!!
Other than that... hmmm ... Let me get back to you on that.
