Interview

Handle: Atom of NorthStar -/- Homepage

How did you come up with your alias ?
I think that Starfire(NS) came up with it and it just seemed like an OK name, besides it could have a little atom logo to go with it!

City / Country:
Helsingborg / Sweden

Born year:
1971

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
ZX Spectrum, got it when I was about 12.

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I liked to program but couldn't think of any usefull programs to code so instead I ended up doing graphical effects, these were later put together as demos. It was a fun way to learn how to program. I only been a member of one group - North Star

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
In my "career" as a demo programmer that would probably have been just when we got started and after our first couple of demos Fairlight wanted us to become members. At that point in time North Star was not known at all and I guess we were "flattered" by that such a well known group would want us as members. Anyway we turned down their kind offer.

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
Doing a silly amount of demos in the early days.

What would you like to be remembered for ?
Doing a silly amount of demos in the early days.

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I become interested in other things in life and it seemed as if I had done my share of amiga demos.

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
No can't say I do. We were in it for friendship and fun.

What was your favorite
GAME(S)
Populus, Katakis, Hybris

DEMO(S)
I was very impressed by Red Sectors 3D demos

PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
There were so many talanted artists and programmers in the demo scene. I thinks some finish guys did some increadible things on the Amiga, unfortunately I can't remeber their names...

CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
Never really liked cracking groups but some groups seemed to be very well organized.

OVERALL GROUPS :
Most groups were specialized in either cracking or demos I think that Red Sector managed to do both very well.

COMPOSER(S)
I think the best demo composer were all Swedish.

BEST GRAPHICS
There were lots of great artist and the only name (besides tha artsts in NS) I can remember is someone called Uno, was he an artist?

EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY)
I think that every copy party I went to was a dissapointment, there was always something wrong - it was too far away, it was too small, there was no place to sleep and worst of all there were never any girls!

MEMORY(S)
We had lots of fun and I think we were all very proud of North Star and the demos/magazines we did togerher. It was also a great way to make friends!

DRINK ?
Non alcoholic - Fresh orange joice
Alcoholic - Mix vodka and whisky then add 3/4 of Russian (soda). Sounds evil. Another gruesome sounding but still good tasting drink is 50% Coca Cola and 50% red wine (this is a ladies drink though!)

What are you doing nowadays ?
Working on a Playstation game for Swedish game developer ATOD.

What are you doing on your spare time?
I spend it together with my wife and dog! Sometimes I manage to sneak away to play some golf.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
If there's any artist or programmers reading this that are interested in games development have a look at ATOD'S web site http://www.atod.se - see you there!

What is the meaning of life?
42!
