Interview

Handle: Sector9 - Razor 1911 Homepage

How did you come up with your alias ?
Simply looked at a 5 1/4" C64 floppy and figured it sounded good. I tried to change it once but was flooded with negative response so I simply gave up and changed it back to Sector9.

City / Country:
Trondheim / Norway

Born year:
1971

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
C=64, 1983

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I formed Razor 1911 together with Dr.No and Insane TTM in 1985 and with exception of one year in Megaforce and ACC (mid.86 - 87) I've constantly been in Razor.

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
I was very proud when my own demo did very well on a copy-party here in Norway back in 1989 after a nerve-wrecking votecollection from more than 300 voters.
Another thing that made me very proud when was people actually started ranking us as beeing one of the best pirategroups and demogroups simultanously on Amiga. (AFL's Cracker Journal in 1990).
Last thing I'd like to mention was when we got our first High-speed bbs (Zodact's "The Castle") in 1989. That was a BIG event for the group and me!

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
I hope that people still look at our old demos and think "damn, this stuff sure was kicking ass when they were made". I also know for fact that we have cracked hundreds of games that makes people remember us when they play them.

What would you like to be remembered for ?
Personally I want people to remember me as a laid-back chap who never took things TOO serious, but serious enough to be able to push Razor into beeing the biggest crackingmachine EVER to have existed (of course it couldn't have been done without all the other people working hard for the group too).

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I slowed down my activities in 1993 when I was told that the phone- company was loggin my at&t-calls. Later, when they tried to bust me (and actually managed to bust the majority of Razor Norway) I figured it was time to take a long vacation from the scene.

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
I regret not starting an IBM-division a little earlier than 1991, as the pontential was huge and the competition was small. I also regret not beginning in the cracking/h/p scene before we really did, coz it was bloody great fun until it got too dangerous.

What was your favorite

BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
Parallax, Comic Bakery and Yie-ar kung-fu by M.Galway.

EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY)
Danish Golds copy-party in Odense 1986, which was probably the only party ever to invite only true ELITE people from the piratescene. About 150 people from the kickass C64-groups and a few people who had just got the brand-new AMIGA!
Another highlight is when Triad smashed the partyplace in Odense and got thrown out one year later. Jolly good fun!

MEMORY(S)
When we saw this funnylooking dude in the Copenhagen railway-station draggin on a huge monitor. This guy later joined us and has ever since been known as Ziphoid. The first time I was greeted in a release by my favoritegroup FCG (CFB) in late 1985. It nearly gave me a heartattack.

Favorite drink ?
G&T

What are you doing nowadays ?
Finishing my studies at the University of Technology and Science in Trondheim and working on a multinational project that the university is involved with.

What are you doing on your spare time?
I go out with my friends and have a beer, see a movie, play arcade- games, pool or anything else I feel like. I also appreciate travelling and try to pay visits to my friends all over the world as often as I can.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
Not really, I just think this "magazine" is a very good idea. I am always very excited when I meet some people from the old scene (Like Errorsoft, German Cracking Service, PieMan etc) on the internet.

What is the meaning of life?
Best theory I heard so far was 42. I simply adjust that to 1911 and it all makes perfectly good sense.
