Interview

Handle: MnemoTroN

How did you come up with your alias ?
It's from a science-fiction story and describes some sort of electronic device, but it didn't say what it does... The way of writing it with three upper case letters was my idea (gotta have something special!).

City / Country:
Somewhere in Northern Germany

Born year:
1970 (Independence Day)

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
It was an Atari 800XL (I never had a Commodore 64) and I got it in 1986, I think. After that, an A500 followed and some years later I bought an A3000, which I still have.

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I was first in a small group called "Silicon League", run by Ram Hunter, and coded some very cheesy intros. Then I got into "Black Division" (which became "Black Monks" later), did a few cheesy intros, some cracks and when the people I knew went to Spreadpoint - there I was, too.

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
Maybe getting "R-Type" out. It was one of the most anticipated games of that time.

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
Cheesy intros and probably several versions of SoundTracker (which were based on the source by Unknown/D.O.C.).

What would you like to be remembered for ?
Cheesy intros, I guess. Did anyone ever see Music-Rip #1 to #3?

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
Good question. The Amiga was losing it and I was losing interest in the Amiga. I also only had a 2,400 Baud modem for a long time and those multi-disc releases took way too much time to transfer.

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
Not buying a 14,400 Baud modem earlier!

What are you doing nowadays ?
Still studying computer science ('til the end of '96) and besides that working to earn some money to buy laserdiscs.

What are you doing on your spare time?
Hanging around at computers and watching movies either at a theater or home cinema.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
I think we all had a good time back in the-good-old-days. Don't forget them. They will never return.

What is the meaning of life?
Everybody should get one.
